Political Life & Commitment to Dalit Representation

Dr. Mukesh Kumar Ravidas’s political journey is rooted in a deep sense of service, discipline, and social justice, shaped by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. From a young age, these two iconic figures became his ideals. Swami Vivekananda’s call for nation-building through self-realisation and Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of equality and constitutional rights inspired him to dedicate his life to uplifting the marginalised and working for national progress.

Growing up, one of his earliest influences was reading the Preamble of the Constitution, printed at the very beginning of NCERT school textbooks. The powerful opening, “We the People of India…”, gave him an early sense of belonging, responsibility, and the idea of inclusive nationalism.

As a child in Bihar, Dr. Ravidas came into contact with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) by visiting his local Shakha Maidan. The morning and evening Shakhas (Pratah and Sayam Shakhas) became his first training ground in discipline, physical fitness, teamwork, and collective celebration of national days like Independence Day and Guru Poornima, where children gathered, played, and shared sweets like kheer. While the ideological meaning was not fully clear to him then, the early exposure laid the foundation for his lifelong dedication to the ideals of the RSS.

His understanding of the RSS’s deeper philosophy matured during his student years at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). JNU gave him a platform to broaden his worldview and debate national and international issues, from economic challenges like inflation to global concerns like disarmament, terrorism, and peace-building. The university’s dynamic intellectual space nurtured his belief that robust dialogue and free thought are the cornerstones of a strong democracy.

While in JNU, he formally stepped into student politics through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). In 2006, he contested his first election for the post of Mess Secretary in Periyar Hostel and won with the highest votes. This experience taught him that politics is not just about winning but about solving real issues, ensuring hygienic food, managing hostel resources, and addressing students’ concerns. In 2007, he again contested for the mess committee post. Though he narrowly lost by four votes, the experience cemented his belief that genuine representation comes from engaging with people’s daily struggles and delivering results.

Within the ABVP, Dr. Ravidas imbibed the values of Gyan, Sheel, and Ekta (knowledge, virtue, and unity) principles that have remained the moral compass of his political life. He undertook the Prathamik Sangh Shiksha Varga, the RSS’s seven-day residential training program that deepened his understanding of organisational discipline, cultural rootedness, and national duty. His commitment saw him take up responsibilities like coordinating the Samajik Samrastha Manch in Vasant Kunj district, working to promote social harmony and reduce caste-based discrimination.

Dr. Ravidas’s dedication and grassroots training naturally led him to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he has held multiple roles. As National Media In-Charge of the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha, he has worked tirelessly to ensure that the voice of Dalit communities reaches every corner of India. His work involves crafting communication material, translating vital party documents and meeting minutes into Hindi and English, and ensuring that the party’s message resonates across linguistic and regional barriers, especially in southern states where Hindi is less common.

He has conducted and trained numerous press conferences, not only at the BJP headquarters in Delhi but also in states like Puducherry, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and others. His training sessions for state media in-charges and co-in-charges have helped build a strong, well-informed cadre capable of articulating the party’s vision and responding to people’s questions with clarity.

Under his leadership, the SC Morcha has run impactful initiatives such as the Basti Sampark Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign to connect with over 1.4 lakh Scheduled Caste settlements, ensuring that no marginalised community is left unheard. Other key efforts like Chhatravas Sampark and Prabhudh Jan Sampark have strengthened ties with SC students in hostels, retired civil servants, judges, professors, doctors, engineers, and other intellectuals from the Dalit community, bringing them closer to the mainstream and empowering them to claim their rightful place in society.

Dr. Ravidas’s contribution is not confined to national borders. Through the BJP’s Videsh Vibhag, he has engaged with foreign diplomats, especially from Spanish-speaking countries, organising meetings and interpreting to build goodwill and international understanding of India’s socio-political journey.

He has also consistently fostered open dialogue by organising free-thinking sessions and loud-thinking circles in major universities like Delhi University, JNU, and Jamia Millia Islamia, promoting debate and awareness among young minds and research scholars.

Today, Dr. Mukesh Kumar Ravidas aspires to bring this wealth of experience and dedication back to Bihar, the land that raised him and which continues to inspire his sense of duty. His mission is to bridge the gap between government policies and the people who need them most, to uplift Dalit and marginalised communities, and to ensure that every family in Bihar can benefit from India’s growth story.

Guided by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, and the principles of integral humanism, Dr. Mukesh Kumar Ravidas stands committed to building an inclusive, self-reliant, and empowered Bihar, where every citizen has the opportunity to live with dignity and hope.
